Our 2018 Annual Meeting will be held at Capilano University campus in North Vancouver.  Capilano University is a gorgeous, wooded, secluded spot, so conference attendees will need to find transportation.  The public transportation system in Vancouver is lovely.

There are really few cities like Vancouver.  On the ocean, at the foot of the mountains, award-winning dining everywhere, and perfect for outdoor recreation, Vancouver is an ideal location.

At AAEEBL, we encourage you to arrive early or stay on after the conference and enjoy Vancouver.  Our schedule is for keynotes starting at 9 am to give you time to travel to campus (coffee at 8 am, welcome at 8:30 am).  The conference ends before 5 pm each day to give you time to explore Vancouver with your colleagues.

Staying in North Vancouver
For your accommodations, there are number of hotels in North Vancouver.  AAEEBL has discounted rates at two, with options at a third.  All rates in Canadian dollars.

• There is conference block of rooms at the Holiday Inn hotel next to the campus.  To make individual reservation, please call hotel directly at 1-877-985-3111 and ask for rooms under group block name (2018 AAEEBL Annual Meeting at Cap U) and/or email reservation request to sales@hinorthvancouver.ca on or before June 15, 2018. Past this cut-off date, group rate is no longer available and all rooms not picked up will be released for general sale at higher rates.  Calling our hotel directly or emailing reservation request to sales@hinorthvancouver.ca, allows us to better track the group’s rooming status.
  • 🚌 There is a public transportation bus that runs regularly from the Holiday Inn to the campus.  It is a 5 minute bus ride.
  • 🚶‍♀️It is 15 minute walk from the Holiday Inn to the campus.
• There is conference block of 25 regular rooms and 10 executive rooms at the Lonsdale Quay Hotel.  The 25 standard rooms will be $189 plus tax “no view guarantee” and 10 Executive rooms at $269 plus tax. Unbooked rooms will be released by April 13th.  
  • 🚌 There is a public transportation bus that run regularly from the Quay to Capilano University.  It is a 25 minute bus ride to campus.
  • 🚗 For folks who are renting a car, it is 10 minute drive to campus.

• At The Pinnacle hotel, group rates are not available, but the Manager encouraged individuals to call and ask for the government rate.  This is a small but luxurious hotel.  Regular rates are currently $409 plus tax for Mountainside and $439 plus tax for Harbourview. Government rates, which must be inquired about, will be $215 plus tax Mountainside and $245 plus tax for Harbourview.

The Georgia Tech Biomedical Engineering Department’s KEEN Project is seeking to fill one full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position with a focus on the design and implementation of e-portfolio pedagogy across the engineering curriculum.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the development of a research program to improve our understanding of how e-portfolio educational activities impact student learning. We are particularly interested in understanding how portfolios can help foster an entrepreneurial mindset within students, as well as develop their ability to craft compelling personal and professional narratives. The Postdoctoral Fellow will use a design-based implementation research approach in which they partner with students, faculty and other stakeholders, at Georgia Tech and other colleges of engineering, to ensure the novel portfolio approach that is developed will be useful and effective across a wide range of settings in engineering education. The fellow will work have the opportunity to work as part of a larger team dedicated to this initiative, and to participate in relevant meetings, conferences and workshops. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses will be conducted.

The postdoctoral fellow will work with the project co-PIs: Dr. Paul Benkeser, Dr. James Stubbs, and Dr. Joe Le Doux.
